There are also generalists that have been expanding their foodtech portfolio in recent quarters (e.g. Gaingels) and VC funds investing in the broader impact ecosystem like Collaborative fund and Lowercarbon capital.

🪲 Ynsect expands to the US with mealworm farm addition.France-based Ynsect has acquired Jord Producers, a Nebraska mealworm company. Later this year Ynsect plans to build its of manufacturing facility. - Food Dive

🇺🇸 MycoTechnology, a US-based mycelial fermentation company, raised $85M Series E to expand its geographical footprint. MycoTechnology is one of the 63 startups working on natural fermentation of fungi to create novel food products. The category has seen increasing interest from investors with VC investment growing from $11M in 2015 to $567M in 2021.
🇮🇱 Beewise Technologies, an Israeli precision robotics company, secured $80M in Series C funding led by Insights Partners. Each year, up to 30% of the honeybee colonies disappear, which has a devastating impact on food production. Beewise Technologies is one of the 45 startups developing technology to foster sustainable apiculture and pollination.

🇺🇸 Native Pet, an Arizona-based pet food company, raised $6M Series A led by CAVU Venture Partners with participation from Mars' Companion Fund.
🇧🇷 Trela, (formally Zapt) a group buying marketplace for food in Brazil, raised $25M Series A.
This year, 5 new foodtech unicorns were minted, bringing the total number to 120. Those 5 unicorns were worth $1.5B last year. Today their combined enterprise value is $6.6B.
