| View in browser November 28, 2022 Giant leap for Exoskeleton tech Last week, the German healthcare had a major victory for advanced technologies and its regulation. ReWalk Robotics achieved regulation. Israel’s ReWalk is a developer of robotic exoskeletons⁠, wearable devices worn to support for gait rehabilitation or locomotion assistance.    BARMER, one of Germany’s largest statutory health insurance providers, accepts a ruling from state courts that made exoskeletons eligible for direct disability compensation. The ruling gives eligible, insured patients with spinal cord injuries (SCIs) a legal basis to use an exoskeleton as an orthopaedic aid for direct disability compensation in Germany.   It paves the way for a whole host of exoskeletons startups, which are mapped on Dealroom 👇 Exoskeleton tech startups   In other news: 👃 Experts Grow New 3D-Printed Nose On Woman’s Arm After She Lost Hers To Cancer. The operation involved ear, nose and throat experts as well as plastic surgery teams at the Toulouse-Oncopole University Cancer Institute. The hospital said that the operation was an “unprecedented intervention” and a “tailored intervention based on cutting-edge technology". - ANANOVA   🩸 FDA approves first gene therapy for hemophilia B. The therapy, called Hemgenix and developed by the Dutch biotechnology company UniQure, is for the less common “B” form of hemophilia, which is estimated to represent about 15% of all patients with the disease. - Biopharmadive   📖 Founder-led biotech is not a new concept. Impressive companies emerged this way. Founder-led biotech companies are becoming increasingly common. While we are seeing inspiring companies emerging, there is still a lot of skepticism around this concept. It’s important to remember that this is not an entirely new phenomenon and that (even very technical) founders have built and led very successful, multi-billion dollar biotech companies. - Alex Schubert   Latest healthtech and biotech deals    The largest from last week:   🇺🇸 Dispatch Health, in-home medical care provider, raised $330M in equity and debt financing.   🇺🇸 Fog Pharmaceuticals raised $178M in Series D. The company plans to enter phase 1 trials with its lead asset, FOG-001, a beta-catenin inhibitor, in mid-2023.    🇮🇳 Lenskart.com, D2C eyewear brand, raised $40M. The company boasts of serving more than 7M customers annually through its omnichannel shopping experience, which spans through online, mobile application, and stores.    Other notable deals from around the globe:   🇩🇪 Temedica, medical patient care startup, raised €25M in Series B. The startup has previously developed a bundle of apps for the German healthcare market (Pelvina, an online course for women to train the pelvic floor; Mineo, for back training; and Waya, an app that aids in weight loss). Now, the company appears to be focused more on the health insights side of things to offering a holistic understanding of patient’s care realities.   🇭🇺 Turbine AI, a company developing a cell behaviour simulation platform, raised €20M in Series A.
