๐ซ๐ท Swile (ex-Lunchr), a France-based meal voucher app, raised $200 million Series D, becoming the latest foodtech unicorn. Last year, the startup has been included in the prestigious French Tech 120 list, a program designed to support scaleups to become world leaders. Since then, the company has doubled its headcount. Swile seeks to become more than a meal voucher company and start managing employee benefits such as ride-sharing, bike and public transport subscriptions.
๐บ๐ธ Blank Street, a tech-enabled coffee company, raised $25 million from General Catalyst and Tiger Global, and others. Established last year, the company operates 14 locations in New York, a mix of mobile street carts and micro-footprint retail spaces. 20% of the transactions come from their app, which processes payments and offers order-ahead. The company aims to scale to 100 locations by 2022.
๐ซ๐ท Jow, a meal and grocery planning service based in Paris, raised $20 million. The business model of Jow is different than online grocery delivery and food delivery startups. It lets users customize their deals for the coming week based on a questionnaire. It then transfers the order to a nearby grocery retailer. The user chooses where to buy the food from. So far, Jow has partnered with major retailers such as Carrefour, Intermarchรฉ, Monoprix, Auchan, Chronodrive and Leclerc.
๐ฉ๐ฐ Agreena, a marketplace for CO2 e-certificates, secured $4.7 million in seed funding. The platform helps farmers move towards regenerative agricultural methods. Then third parties are able to buy the carbon offsets from the farmers via Agreena's marketplaces or over the counter. Agreena could be solution to a long-standing problem. The green gas emissions of farming in the European Union have not declined since 2010 according to Bloomberg.
