Back-to-school: Medical education and training

Lifelong learning is essential in healthcare. Startups are developing new technologies and learning services for medical students and professionals to improve their knowledge throughout their career. 

Medical education and training startups have raised more than $845M globally since 2019. Global VC funding has gone from $26M in 2018 to $281M in 2022 YTD, a 11x increase. Only this year, 69% of total investment corresponds to rounds above $40M, like Proximie ($80M), Osso VR ($66M) and Labster ($47M). 

Today, medical education and training startups have a combined enterprise value of $4.2B, a 7x increase since 2018. Afya is the most valued company so far ($1.1B), followed by Beijing Ouyi Technology ($400—600M) and Proximie ($320—480M).

🤝 Novartis extends Kaiku digital patient monitoring partnership. The initial partnership led to a pilot of the personalized support module for people being treated with the drugs at cancer clinics in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy, alongside an established module from Kaiku. The results of this pilot have made it clear that the cooperation has great potential to enhance the monitoring and symptom management of melanoma.  - PharmaPhorum

🇺🇸 Insightec, healthcare company dedicated to using acoustic energy to transform patient care, received $200M in financing.

🇺🇸 Alma, a membership-based network of independent mental health care providers, has closed a $130M series D funding led by Thoma Bravo, a leading software investment firm.

🇺🇸 JenaValve Technology, developer and manufacturer of differentiated transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) systems, has recieved $100M in Series C financing.

🇮🇳 Oasis Fertility, one of India’s most clinically advanced fertility chains, has raised $50M in funding from Kedaara Capital, a private equity firm in India.

🇮🇳 MedGenome, a Bangalore, India-based genetic diagnostics, research, and data company, raised $50M in funding.

🇮🇱 Theranica, a prescribed digital therapeutics company developing advanced neuromodulation devices for migraine and other idiopathic pain conditions, closed its Series C funding round at $45M.

🇺🇸 Petfolk, the new breed of veterinary care that offers a better connected community for today's vets, pets and caretakers, closed a $40M Series A funding round.
