This year's Q1, home prices (in relation to income) in the US & UK reached their highest point at a median income ratio of 7.9x. For reference, the height of the 2005 housing bubble saw this metric reach a maximum of 7x. As inflation and interest rates continue to rise, mortgage and lending real estate marketplaces look like they're walking on thin ice, will they crack?

On the surface, it seems like mortgage and lending real estate marketplaces are performing their best. Since 2017, the combined EV of mortgage and lending real estate marketplaces grew 4.7x. On top of that, at the start of the pandemic the market saw a surplus in capital and low interest rates. Yet, it seems like this rapid growth was temporary as recent home ownership rates in the US are back on a downturn and consumer confidence has plunged. 

Along with inflation and rising interest rates, the biggest firms in this segment are grappling with heavy cuts to their staff due to recent market upsets, with the likes of Zillow and Better Mortgage losing 15% and 50% of employees in the last six months.

💰 Americans’ Savings Rate Drops to Lowest Since 2008 as Inflation Bites. As inflation continues rising in the US, and debt levels rise, consumers try to keep the same spending activity as previously. Yet, savings have gone to historically low levels as consumer-focused marketplaces try to brush off the downfall. - Bloomberg

🚗 Electric cars continue strong. The latest Electric Vehicle Outlook report predicts a 3x increase in electric vehicles sales by 2025 and lifts the point of further action needed by policymakers for converting fleets of heavier vehicles to electric. - Bloomberg

🇬🇧 Florence, the London-based care home recruitment platform, has raised a $35M Series B round. The firm has reportedly had a 5x YoY revenue increase since 2021. This round will be used to expand its services outside of elderly care.

🇺🇸 GameTime, the San Francisco-based marketplace for last-minute event tickets, has raised $30M  to expand its offering to younger audiences and improve its platform. The platform operates with live events in sports, theaters, comedy shows and others. Since 2013, the startup has sold more than $1B in tickets.

🇺🇸 FindItParts, the US-based truck and trailer parts marketplace, has raised a $30M Series A as a bid to fuel growth.

🇮🇱 Air Doctor, the Israeli marketplace connecting travelers to doctors abroad, has raised $20M t o expand its team and offices globally.

🇸🇬 Novelship, the Singapore-based sneaker marketplace, has raised $10M for brand partnerships and Metaverse product integration.
