World Oceans Day

This year's World Oceans Day is bringing awareness to how unsafe the ocean has become for the species that call it home. A contributor to this problem is the shipping industry. Shipping traffic increased 300% between 1992 and 2013 and is expected to grow at 4% per year, which is negatively affecting the world's whale population. 

Many of the world's busiest shipping lanes overlap with areas where whales feed, give birth, nurse their young, or travel between their feeding and breeding grounds. Ship strikes are one of the leading causes of death for endangered and vulnerable whale populations.

🏭 Thermal coal demand to increase to around 1,500 MT by 2040. This weekend India’s coal minister Pralhad Joshi said that the nation’s “thermal coal requirement” would go up to around 1,500m tonnes (a year, compared to 777m tonnes produced last year) over the next 18 years. - The Hindu

🇫🇷  Diabeloop, a Parisian-based automated insulin delivery startup, has raised $74.9M in a Series C financing round. LBO France, a private equity player, led the financing round. 

🇩🇰 Denmark-based decarbonization company ZeroNorth has raised $50M in investment. The Series B round saw the participation of PSG Equity and existing investors.

🇺🇸 Bark Technologies, an Atlanta, GA-based global leader in the digital safety space, has closed a $30M Series C financing round led by Kayne Partners. 

🇫🇷 French startup Upway has raised a $25M in a Series A round led by Exor Seeds and Sequoia Capital. The company sells second hand electric bikes that have been refurbished.

🇦🇺 Australian modular solar pioneer 5B has completed a $21.8M Series B funding round with its existing shareholders. 

🇩🇪 The Munich-based reusable supplier Recup has secured €12M in a seed round that saw participation from GLS-Bank and Blueworld Group.

🇮🇱 Israel’s Brevel has raised $8.4M to build a commercial pilot facility for its microalgae-based protein. Investors in the seed funding round included FoodHack, Good Startup VC and Tet Ventures.
